The Story

Southern California's diverse urban landscape includes historic districts, coastal communities, and dense urban cores—each with unique aesthetic requirements demanding a unified yet flexible approach. A regional strategy was needed to create consistent design standards while respecting local character.

The Challenge

Develop a comprehensive small cell deployment strategy across multiple Southern California municipalities, each with different aesthetic requirements and approval processes. The goal was to create a unified design language that could adapt to historic downtown districts, beachfront communities, and modern commercial corridors.

Our Approach

Modular design system with interchangeable aesthetic components that maintain consistent engineering standards. Subsurface vaulting was prioritized in sensitive areas, while above-ground installations used a catalog of pre-approved designs tailored to each community's architectural character, streamlining approvals across jurisdictions.

Outcomes

  • Unified design system deployed across 12 municipalities
  • Subsurface solutions eliminated visible equipment in 40% of sites
  • 50% faster approval times through pre-certified designs
  • Scalable framework for future regional expansion
